Why online music still sucks in my book.

Some of you may consider me to be old fashioned - for a tech - in one respect. I still buy CD's, that's right, actual physical media, of music, and everything else I want to keep.
A friend of mine was telling me all the wonders of a cheap Russian music site where I could download songs for about $0.10 each - theoretically legally. I didn't want to, something about giving Russians my credit card info didn't appeal to me, and I like having hard copy. See, he got lots of music off that site, and granted, it was cheap but his hard drive crashed and he didn't have a backup.
Some people like more legit download sites, the kind with DRM and the like, after losing a hard disk, you can redownload it legally! Well, I'm not a fan of DRM, Microsoft is presenting one reason, I can come up with quite a few others as well. I want to be able to do what I like with what I buy.
For the same reasons, I buy DVD's instead of downloading movies, and I like to have real game consoles and cartridges/disk instead of emulators.
What do you know, I don't use Linux because I'm a cheap skate pirate, I'll actually pay for media. I like modern digital media. Once I get cable, or someone actually makes a PCI Direct TV card and I build up another MythTV system I fully intend to rip all of my DVDs to digital mesh, but there's something about having that golden hard copy that the original content producers can't change the rules on after the fact that I like.
Fair use laws are going through their trials and tribulations right now, but slowly consumers are beginning to win back some of the rights we haven't actually lost, just legislated away via a technicality.
How about the rest of you? Is everyone pure digital copy yet, or do some of you still like to have media also?

I also prefer to have the physical disc over just a downloaded version. But I won't say I don't download, I download movies and music all the time... to try it out. If it sucks it might get stuck in a folder somewhere, but mostly it'll get deleted, if it's good I'll buy it when the wallet permits.
I'll admit, I downloaded a TV show episode recently, one that I missed. In my defense it's on it's fourth season and I have the first three seasons on DVD, and I will get the 4th when it comes out. I just lack a working DVR at the moment.

TV shows are another thing I download... but that's because I hate to wait a year or so to see the new episodes. And to see some of the shows that don't make it here.

I don't have a whole lot of use for CDs, really. I think a CD is a lot more likely to break or scratch than a file is to get corrupted or erased.
It's all in how you listen to your music, I guess. I don't use CDs in the car (thanks, XM!) and if I'm at work, I want a big variety of different genres that would otherwise have me swapping CDs every couple of songs or invest more time into making mix Cs than I care to. I'm all about the digital music, as far as that goes.
Even with DVDs, I don't buy them that often anymore either. I'll watch something on pay-per-view or on one of the cable channels, but I only watch a movie once or twice on average so I see no need to spend $20 for a DVD of that which I then have to store somewhere. So I guess I download movies too, in a way.
In the CD department, I rarely listen directly off of a disk. I consider it a source device and a backup. To top it off I consider it "the license". In the car I either listen to audio books (directly off of the CD in that case, I have a six disk changer which is great for audio books) or I use my IRiver plugged in through the tape deck. DVDs, well, I still watch those off of the disk. The main reason I intend to rip those is to create a central media storage system, once I move into something with more than one room again. My current house I could put a stereo in any corner and listen to it just fine in any room. I recently bought a used XBox off of eBay with the sole intent of hacking it to be a media center device or at least a MythTV front end. I may get another XBox just to make one of each. I'm thinking a couple of gun safes would make good media storage for the originals, even though that's not cheap.

All that sounds like way too much work. Music just ain't that important to me, I guess.
Agreed on the in car part. I just can't find a car stereo that does OGG/Vorbis.
